Chances are, you or someone you know is affected by a tongue-tie.
Common, yet little understood, tongue-ties can lead to a myriad of problems, including difficulty when nursing, speaking or eating. In the most crucial and formative parts of children’s lives, tongue-ties have a significant effect on their well-being. Many parents and professionals alike want to know what can be done, and how best to treat these patients and families.
And now, there are answers.
Tongue-Tied How a Tiny String Under the Tongue Impacts Nursing, Feeding, Speech, and More is an exhaustive and informative guide to this misunderstood affliction. Along with a team of medical specialists, author Dr. Richard Baxter demystifies tongue-ties and spells out how this condition can be treated comprehensively, safely and comfortably.
Starting with a broad history of tongue-ties, this invaluable guide covers 21st-century assessment techniques and treatment options available for tethered oral tissues. Various accounts of patient challenges and victories are prominently featured as well. With the proper diagnosis and treatment, tethered oral tissues can be released with minimal discomfort, resulting in lives free of struggles during nursing, speaking, and feeding, while also reducing the incidence of dental issues, headaches, and even neck pain for children through adults.
Aimed at both parents and professionals, Tongue-Tied encourages those affected while providing reassuring and valuable information. Dr. Baxter and his qualified team have pooled their expertise to make a difference in the lives of people. No longer will young patients and their parents suffer without answers.
Having examined and treated newborns to adults with oral restrictions since the early 1980s, I have never seen such a complete and thorough study of the subject. Dr. Baxter has covered it all! "This book is a brilliant resource for anyone who needs more information on the topic. The contribution from various highly regarded professionals in their own disciplines to the effects of tongue tie in infants through to adults in the one book is wonderful. It's clear that Dr Baxter's passion for health improvement for his patients and their families is the reason this has been written. Anyone from professionals to parents will appreciate the information but none more so than those who are already working in the field. Like the Author I see the effects of tongue tie on a daily basis (I'm an Orofacial Myolgist and an Oral Health Therapist in Australia) and this gem is going to be a valuable addition to my resource collection."

- I received my copy of Tongue Tied and devoured it in 2 days. I'm a pediatric Dental Hygienist who has been surrounded by practitioners in the Myofunctional realm, along with seeing many speakers like Derek Mahoney and Dr. Zaghi. It is refreshing to have an updated compilation of the collective information on all aspects of Tongue and lip ties. This book is ideal for people in the Dental Field, Pediatric Dentistry, General Dentistry, Speech and Language, occupational field and Pediatric Medical field. I personally had all the issues with my 3 sons as babies, feeding... colic, painful breastfeeding etc and nobody caught it until I finally was enlightened by Dr. Sami who I worked with. She identified my 3rd son's TT and LT. He was prescribed Proton Pump inhibitors as a newborn. When it was all tied to the restriction in his tongue. I am passionate about this field. I am thrilled to have the latest information to be able to share with people thanks to Dr. Baxter's book and work. Highly recommend this book to various practitioners to educate on the vast problems in the body that it can cause if left untreated.
- I highly recommend this book to everyone. Every professional, every parent, every provider, and just about everyone who was born with a tongue. The topic, oral tethers (aka "tongue and lip ties") is laid out in a brilliant way. The flow of knowledge, research, and real clinical stories of success define the problem, the choices to be considered and the possible avenues to explore when considering treatment.
Dr. Baxter has brought together the best and brightest in the field to explain a topic so foreign to many. A muscle group that has been taken for granted far too long. The book unveils the mystery behind symptoms that are simply discarded because of lack of understanding. The team spotlights the tongue's powerful presence in our health outcomes - both positive and negative.
The book is brilliant and thought-provoking from cover to cover. No matter your background or credentials, the book is a nice read and will leave you saying "wow...could my problem be that simple!" Thank you, Dr. Baxter! - Wondering if your baby/child is tongue tied or orally restricted?
Second guessing your pediatrician who wants to go straight to a tonsillectomy or ear tubes?
Having problems with breastfeeding and thinking it must be an oral restriction even tho all the experts you’ve seen say “I don’t see a tie†or “That’ tongue tie thing is just a fad Have a baby with REFLUX?

- After studying at two of the top institutions in the states, Dr. Baxter had the honor of completing his residency at Nationwide Children's Hospital. A hospital which consistently ranks among one of the nation’s top-ranked pediatric hospitals and busiest pediatric dentistry clinics. While working with some of the elite professionals in the dental world, Dr. Baxter choose to focus on preventive and restorative care, dental emergencies and trauma, orthodontics, dental sedation and general anesthesia, and care for children with special needs. Content of the book is well researched and documented. Engaging and enlightening are two words that come to mind while reading. Information is put in a manner that is understandable and relatable for readers of all backgrounds. Can not thank Dr. Baxter and his team of contributing professionals enough for putting out this educational tool.
Great Read! - I work as a medical interpreter here in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The book is wonderful! A myofascial therapist who is also a myofunctional therapist found that my wife had a severe tongue tie. For years I have taken my wife for chiropractic adjustments, massage, physical therapy, etc. Finally we found the reason for only slight and temporary relief! Unfortunately very few providers here fully understand this condition. So many of the narratives found in this book are spot on regarding how infrequently this condition is diagnosed and even less treated. It seems that unless one is personally affected or a loved one this condition remains a mystery. Thank you so much Dr Baxter and your associates for such an enlightening book!
- This book provides a lot of knowledge for tongue tie, lip tie, buccal tie, and the possible symptoms of each. I consider this information very valuable for anyone to know. These restrictive ties seem to be something that was very well known in our past but that has also been forgotten.
I appreciate the authors going into great detail about the ties and the symptoms relating to them. I also like how it is explained how the ties cause the symptoms. There are plenty of pictures for both before and after release of a tie. There is also some scientific evidence included which is great for any medical professionals looking to broaden their knowledge on this subject to benefit their patients.
Because the symptoms of these ties can be caused by various different conditions, I truly suggest to anyone interested in these ties that they read this book to learn everything it has to offer. This book also shares important resources and techniques for finding further information and seeking a professional diagnosis.
