The Healthy Pregnancy Book Month by Month Everything You Need to Know from America Baby Experts The Sears Parenting Library Audible Audio Edition William Sears MD Martha Sears RN Linda Holt MD B J Snell PhD CNW Coleen Marlo Inc Blackstone Audio Books Reviews

  • I should have known not to get this book when the author was tagged as "the MAN who remade motherhood." The book starts out with a guilt trip about the likelihood that you're too fat and old to bear children. If you get pregnant anyway, it's followed by really dubious and unscientific advice about every minute detail of your life change your commute to work because it's probably unsafe; don't use your cellphone near your belly because your baby will get radiation (that's not even a thing), if you're thirsty you can drink water and only water. I want to do what's right for my baby, but the to-do list is unrealistic and implies that mothers can drop everything for 40 weeks to concentrate on pregnancy. I'm saddened to see some this advice coming from a doctor and nurse, who seem to have no empathy or understanding for their readers. I'm recycling my copy so it won't end up in another future mother's hands.
  • This book is very informative and discusses important things you should know without instilling fear, as some of the other books out there are accused of. It is unbiased and discusses all sides of subject. There are side notes that explain if the authors lean towards one side or another they explain why so you can understand and leave you with enough information to then make your own decision. I only gave it 4 stars because I purchased the kindle version and there are quick links to other points in the book that don't take you where they should. That is really annoying but it would have been a wonderful feature, had it worked. (Oh, and I also wish someone would add a chapter to their books from the point of view of a short person. I feel physically like I am 2 months ahead of all you tall lanky ladies out there. Ie "Around month seven you will feel your uterus start to expand over your naval"... Really? Because I am in month five and I'm pretty sure my uterus is up in my throat. Thats all lol.)
  • It's a fine book, and the Sears seem like lovely people. It just seems a little old-fashioned. I couldn't buy into the part about Dad being Mr. Mom (my husband and I are equal partners. He will be Dad doesn't need to be Mr. Mom), and the part about pregnant women mostly needing sex for affection and comfort was just absurd. Also, I appreciate that they didn't try to scare you, but I couldn't even find spotting in the index which rendered the book useless for the first problem I encountered. Not for me, but if you can get past the tone or have never heard of smoothies before, this may be the book for you. 3 stars because it has good info, I'm just snarky.
  • I find the Sears writing style to be very readable and have enjoyed every book written by Dr or Martha I've read. This is my second pregnancy and I wish I had this book the first time around! Lots of great info for anyone and goes beyond just nutrition and food. Recommended this book to my sister who's on her first pregnancy and she loves it too.
  • Much more upbeat and not fear based like "What to Expect when Expecting".
Very informative and easy to read. Dr. Sears is the best out there.
I highly recommend this book to all moms to be.
  • I found this to be a really great alternative to the classic "what to expect" book. I purchased this copy for a friend who when she was newly pregnant. She's now 16 weeks along and finds the book helpful and informative.
  • Goodness, this book is a gold mine of important information that every pregnant person, or better yet, any person thinking about becoming pregnant, should read! In fact, a lot of information focuses on any person’s health in general. We should be living by these standards regardless of pregnancy. The book was written in 2013, I believe, so it would be awesome if a newer version was available that included the latest research. Nevertheless, most of the information seems to be relevant to this day. I highly highly recommend if you are interested in health and giving your baby or future child the best start to life you possibly can. Knowledge is empowering.
  • It drives me crazy that Sears doesn't cite ANYTHING. They refer to all these wonderful research studies but don't even give the name. No work cited, no bibliography, no foot notes. WHAT THE HELL? BUT now that I have said my two cents, it is a very good book. I enjoyed it and will recommend it to other families.
