• I couldn't put this book down. I loved it! I'm a sci-fi person and it was exciting to see what happened to Lucy. I didn't read anything about the book beforehand, so I had no preconceived notions. Lucy's journey into finding out what was really happening to her was a surprise. Cole did not deserve a 2nd and 3rd chance. I'm excited to read more books about Lucy and hopefully Ravi. It was a wonderful ride and I was sorry when it was over.
• The Tesla Legacy is the debut novel of K.K. Perez. The title will probably give you a bit of an idea of what is in store, which is something I love about it. The novel follows young Lucy Phelps as the unbelievable happens to her. Lucy finds herself in a mystery of epic proportions, and she’s at the center of it all.
  This novel is a young adult novel, but it’s also very satisfyingly a science fiction novel. It’s fast-paced, quirky, and a lot of fun to read. Lucy’s character is charismatic and stubborn, not to mention driven.
  One of the best parts about this novel is the positivity it shows towards STEM. Lucy is a brilliant scientist, and while she’s young, she’s never discouraged from her passions. Not in any professional manner, at least. It’s heartening to see.
  The Tesla Legacy was such a fun read. Blending actual science with science fiction is always a great call, but putting a young teenager at the helm really made this novel stand out. Lucy’s character made it easy to become invested in the plot on multiple levels.
  I loved the steady buildup that occurred in this novel. Right away we had an idea of what was to come, if for no other reason than the title. But doesn’t mean we knew how it was going to happen. The subtleties were perfect, and honestly it worked well with Lucy’s driven nature at multiple points.
  Speaking of Lucy, I feel like most of us could use somebody like her in our lives. She’s driven and knows what she wants to do with her life. She’s also loyal to a fault – even when it frequently forces her to turn a blind eye on what is really happening around her.
  The plot quickly progressed from this teenage curiosity to a full-scale conspiracy in the blink of an eye. It made sense, once you start poking large organizations like that you’re going to garner attention very quickly…and you may not enjoy that so much.
  I think I only had two major complaints about this novel. The first is how a young science – any young scientist - could possibly not know who Nikola Tesla is. This fact is made harder to grasp when you consider that Lucy’s study involves Edison and electricity. I suppose we could argue that her parents intentionally hid everything Tesla from her…but that doesn’t fit in well with her character. We’re talking about a character with a drive to learn – she would have come across his name at some point, right? Regardless of the reasoning behind it, that moment did break the emersion for me a little bit. Though I was able to sink back into the novel with time.
  My second complaint is less of a complaint, and a very emotional opinion of a character. Cole is a turd. Sorry, but he totally is. Lucy is a good person for wanting him to have a second chance in life; because if you ask me he had a second and a third chance well before and totally blew it. Especially when he risked other people’s opportunities in life for his own gain. To put it simply, I don’t think Cole deserved that extra chance. So he’s lucky that Lucy is a kinder person than I am.
  Other than those parts, I really enjoyed the Tesla Legacy. It was a fun read and full of mysteries and adventure. The characters were emotionally compelling, even if I didn’t always like them, and the plot itself was strong and intriguing.
  I’ll be curious to see what the following novels will be named, and what will end up happening in them. I’ll have to be patient and wait for more information though, sadly.
• This book is electrifying and loads of exciting, power-driven and thrilling fun!
  
  Take an insanely smart but quiet teenager, who has been home schooled most her life because of a seizure disorder, and throw in a bit of Peter Parker meets Electro meets Wonder Woman - and you've got our main character, Lucy. She's finally convinced her overbearing parents to let her attend high school, and she's been staying pretty low key for most of it, finally dating a cute boy and coming into her own and feeling "normal."
  
  Until one day she discovers a hidden message in a photo, and decides to follow her curiosity to the New Yorker Hotel, more specifically, The Tesla Suite. Something inside the mysterious hotel room, unlocks something even more mysterious inside of Lucy. She slowly begins to uncover an energizing tale of historical rivalries, while simultaneously trying to understand her jolting genetic mutation. The things she discovers are terrifying and exciting all at the same time - and she soon comes to find there are people out there who think that her "kind" should not exist.
  
  I loved Lucy! She's just a teen trying to find her way in life. Trying to find that "spark." She desperately just wants to be a normal teenager and fit in, but her seizures make her feel like an oddball. She still manages to be feisty and quick-witted, smart and strong, and is fiercely loyal to those she loves.
  
  The characters are all really well developed and interesting, and I was engaged in every single plot twist, desperately reading to find out more. This was a really fun, action-packed story with thrilling situations and dialogue, and it kept me riveted from start to finish!
  
  I received this book as a partner for BookSparks #YAWRC2019 and I'm really excited to read more from KK Pérez!

  One side wants her help and the other wants her dead, but both believe she is the next step in human evolution. Unfortunately, carriers of the genetic mutation—including Nikola Tesla—have a greatly reduced life expectancy. Even if Lucy can outrun her enemies, she can’t outrun herself.
  
  Review I thought this book was really good. It was really educational on Tesla, even if it was a bit fantastical on some of the details. The book has a really good concept and the pacing is perfect for this book. The characters are also really well developed as well.
  
  However, the book is really clunky in the middle and with the fight scenes. Some of the side characters are unremarkable and need development. I really feel that the book could have been better, but I just felt so bogged down by the action scenes and by these secret societies that, to me, aren’t really that well developed.
  
  Verdict A decent book overall!

• I really loved this story. My only regret was that I did not know about Molly Green's first book which starts off this story. The books can stand alone, however I recommend reading The Orphan in the Snow first by the same author first.
• An Orphan’s War One of the best historical fictions you will read in 2018 is by Molly Green. This takes place in Liverpool and London during World War II. It is interesting that the author tells some of the things that are factual in the story. First are the Barnardo Orphanages. Dr. Barnardo was an Irish Philanthropist who, since he was a bachelor, first took in only boys; but after his marriage, took in girls too. He set up homes across England and Ireland for children to be housed during the wars and afterwards as orphans. Not all children in these homes were orphans. Some of the stories came from a lady who was in the home with her brother as their father was in the military. Over 60,000 children went through these homes. Another place that was used as it was in the book was St. Thomas Hospital in London. Even the “white rabbits” are still in the basement. Probably the most interesting is the name Crofton. She met a man in London who was sub officer in the London fire department. He had been in London during the Blitz. She found out his first name was Crofton and liked it so used it as her main character’s name.
  This is the story of a young war widow who was in training in London to become a nurse. She fell in love with a married surgeon (without knowing he was married) and became pregnant. She refused to abort the child but did give him up for adoption. She then became a nurse in one of the Barnardo orphanages in Liverpool. She has to live with the guilt of giving up her son. She sets out to help all the children at the orphanage especially a young half-German boy whose Father was a Nazi officer.
  The twists in this story just keep coming. It is really a good book
• The book was ok, it's hype as " one of the best historical fiction books you will read in 2018" - not so much. Very predictable story line, no surprises, and I guess I thought it would follow more orphan's than the love story it ended up being.
• This book was no more than 5% the story of the orphan in the title. The rest was poorly written, annoying soap opera. It seemed that most thoughts behind many of the brief story lines were taken from the works of other, better authors. Binchey to name one of them. Even at $1.99 it is not worth buying.
• More like a harlequin romance novels rather than historical fiction. Very little related to 'An Orphans War' but rather a woman who makes bad choices.
• This is a great WWII saga that covers the lives of those whom live and work at Dr. Barnado's Orphanage. The author has given us back stories of all the characters which has been such a great part of this book. I enjoyed the writing style and felt that this book could go straight to a movie or television series! I'd love to have a television series involving both books about the Orphanage. The author, Molly Green, has a writing style that I really enjoy. She builds her characters so that you will really understand who they are and how they interact with others at the Orphanage. I can't wait for the third book in the Dr. Barnado's Orphanage series to come out. I loved this series and will highly recommend it!
• I would class this book as being a women’s story, but it is nevertheless gripping and touching. Set in London and Liverpool during World War 2, Maxine Taylor leaves her family’s home and goes to a London hospital to be trained as a nurse. There is much drama what with German bombings, a relationship with a surgeon who turns out to be a true villain. After giving birth to and putting out for adoption the baby that man sired, she is employed at a home for orphans. Maxine is smart, capable and has a lot to do with an 8-year-old German boy. Peter who is withdrawn and difficult. There are many twists and turns in Maxine’s life and all is well by the end.
• I love reading historical fiction. An Orphan’s War allows you to see into the early days of WWII through some of the people most affected by the conflict. Those in the medical field had a particularly hard time, as did the children of many civilians and military who lost their lives. This story is written with a particular sensitivity to the perils the children face and those who go out of their way to give them a semblance of normalcy.
